No, we are not in the military.
That’s usually the first question I get asked when I explain our journey each time we move to a new state. After all, living in five states across the US is not your typical story, but it’s mine. And people love to hear all about it.
Because everyone loves a good story.
So, I tell the story about how my husband’s firm has transferred us from location to location so that he may serve his clients well. I tell about the kids we’ve added along the way, and the friendships we’ve made. I express what we’ve learned from the different cultures we’ve experienced, and thus the breadth of compassion and understanding we’ve accumulated.
I get it, my story is fascinating.
But, so is yours.
And that is why storytelling is what I believe to be an integral part of marketing. Because it comes with so many layers. And it can be told in so many ways, through multiple channels and techniques.
Your story is ever evolving.
One thing remains the same, though: your story and what you have to offer. Your point of view and how that can help you serve others better. Your expertise and how your experience provides value.
When you’re thinking about your marketing strategy, consider whether or not you are telling your story. Think about who is listening. Keep in mind how you can help.
After all, who isn’t captivated by a good story?
